Te Aro mural

Im really excited about this post because I finally got to photograph The BMD in action while they painted an old building with Eeks Drypnz Cast Editor and Preo in Aro Valley. They attracted quite a crowd as the Aro Fair was going on next door (which by coincidence fell on the same day they planned on painting)

I captured some video footage of the whole wall but Youtube is being annoying and wouldnt let me upload it. I'll put it up as soon as I can.

Dirty taggers! Haha Jokes bro.

Randoms

Just some random pictures Ive acquired over the last 2 weeks. Ive lacked motivation the last month or so and with quality graf on the decline it doesnt make for an up-to-date-blog

I found this on a billboard which was hidden by those hideous Dancing with the stars-esque advertisments. I know which one id rather see!

Some good things coming up though. WriteForGold international graffiti competition heats start in May with the final held at Splash! Festival in Germany early June. Also there will be an article in Salient Magazine, Victoria University's Student Magazine covering postering which should be interesting. The BMD and I added some insight. Excited to read the final product. Thanks Nina.

I was contacted by Illicit Exhibitions which is a street art blog based in the U.S with some impressive featured blogs by international artists. Ex-pat Welly artist Mephisto Jones made an appearance in her latest post. Love your work Meg!

Wgtnwallstreet.com is coming up 1 year old! Its been a crazy blogging experience. I feel I should do something new and different. Any suggestions?

Until then......

New Banksy Trashed.

Now this is not in Wellington but I though it was worth a mention...

I've been following a blog from the UK called Hooked for nearly as long as I've had WgtnWallStreet and I am an avid fan. They reported recently that new Banksy stencils had been defaced apparently by the same person.

Now, everyone knows Banksy. He (or they) have had their work sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars and even had work preserved under perspex sheets by the council (yep the council!) While some are outraged that someone could deface such a valuable piece of art others think that this is part of putting something out in the public arena (myself included) Yes its unfortunate that it was destroyed but street art/graffiti is anything but permanent. I had to stop reading all the articles about ''What a tragedy'' it is to see someone tag ''Say no to art fags'' over it in fear of throwing up out of shear frustration in the fact that this happens all the time and now suddenly everyone gives a fuck just because its Banksy.

Ahhh, don't get me wrong Banksy is witty and clever and while I may own Wall And Piece and any other street art book with them featured in, it doesn't make me the biggest fan.
6 or 7 pages on Banksy and 1 and a half on Blek Le Rat?! Anyone else notice how shitty that is? Blek Le Rat is a stencil pioneer and yet he gets pushed to the side because someone who makes a shitload of money off their work is now the stencil ''King''.
Bollocks!

Call me jealous or whatever four letter word comes to mind but my argument is is that people are blinded by the monetary value of the stencil instead of seeing its well crafted relevance. My own stencils have been tagged over numerous times but just because they aren't worth the paint the were painted with people aren't up in arms about it.
Man! I'm getting old..... Who knows.

The Happy Hangover

I Finally got around to reviewing some of the photos I took for The Happy Hour group show at Manky Chops. I spent most of the time drinking and taking photos of people instead of the artwork which I now regret. Ah well. I suggest you go up and take a look for yo'selves. Show runs til the 4th April.

Pre-hangover

Thought I better get in another post before the Happy Hour hangover renders me useless.... and Yes I'll have photos of the night for those that cant make it.

Its been quiet on the street art front lately. Im assuming that since the Uni year has started again that its been keeping alot of people busy with no time for late night missions..

I caught wind of a Free Art thingymajig in LeftBank. Didnt really know much about it so kinda flagged on the idea. I strolled through on Monday and saw some Drypnz goodness and a piece written in asian (sorry im not entirely sure what language it is) This was the second one of the day that I had seen written in another language. Hope we see more very soon whoever you are!

(I found out later that his name is RANDOM from Akld)

Free art perhaps?

I'll post some photos of the exhibit when I feel human again.

Auction

Went up to Manky Chops to check the Freshly Painted Auction. The place was looking different after a bit of a change-around (due to them acquiring a new office space)

Being the tired old nana that I am I didnt stick around for long.... Most probably a blessing-in-disguise cos I could see myself devouring the lethal Punch concoction on offer and rolling home at some ungodly hour of the morning and not really remembering it all.

They had only got through 3 or 4 walls by the time I left with most selling pretty quickly.

Brad in the mix

$66.60!!!

.......Saw this rolling by last weekend.

..And saw some RAILWAY ROCKERZ getting high

...and a lady SINning in Glover Park

More Manky Chops goodness coming soon. Watusi here we come! Lol

Better late than never...

Manky Chops Gallery is proud to present the auction night for their first collaborative exhibition of the year. The end result was the production of 11 walls that are covered in over 100 canvas’s, and have the gallery full to capacity. Freshly painted features work by some of Wellington and Auckland’s finest urban artists including Juse1, Kerb, Component, Enforce One, Peepshow, Liam Moore, Sole, Micheal Tuffery, DrypNZ, Eeks, Slope, Xoe Hall, Ymre, Moni, & Mica Still.

All of the Individual Canvas Paintings and Walls are avaliable to purchase via the Auction that we will be hosting at Manky Chops Gallery on Friday, 13th March. Quality over quantity

Ive just had a look at the back catalogue of posts and realised that Paste-ups have been the flavour of the last 2 or so months so I decided to show some different stuff. Not that I'm complaining about Paste-ups, its just that I like to show quality over quantity and the Pasteys that have appeared around the place were definitely worth showing.

I dont venture down LeftBank as much as I used to anymore. Its a shame because alot of the Wellington graf/street art that appeared on any websites in NZ would be from LeftBank. That said I was surprised to see some stencils down there on a lonely walk through a couple of days ago.

Haha HAPPY! Krak Whores!

Spurt made an appearance too. Been a long time since we've seen a his name up around town. Unless im looking in the wrong places??

EverFresh Crew! I was excited to see this sticker as Ive only ever seen a Rone Paste-up twice in Wellington. Taranaki St still going strong + Kaiwharawhara (sadly its been buffed)
Check there site HERE

On the way to Newtown Fair last sunday with Pint Bits I spotted this Tag. Now im not the biggest fan of tags but I hadn't seen a GBAK tag etc since I lived in AucklandTown and I HAD to take a picture.

....Hope that will suffice. Ive got loads more to post. Ive built up quite a collection recently.

I've got to say YOUR AWESOME! to Surplus Bargains. So good to see your site up and running. Keep it up man!

''All cops are bastards''

The last few weeks have been a bit of a treat for (me) Wellington. Having serious street artists like Cut Collective in town has spiced the place up a bit. I'm not sure about you but its definitely made me want to add my bit to city.... But with so much out there to photograph I feel like I should document it all first before the haters let their jealousy get the better of them and rip them all down.

Check this BMD yo! These dudes have no end to their MADNESS!!! haha

EEKS ONER! Hangin nexta' them BMD boys

Sin has been at it again. Loving the scale of these paste-ups.

According to the Swonderful blog they dug his first pastey that was there and they wanted to see more. So, you may choose to hate on him but that doesn't change the fact that people WANT to see his work up.

I saw a new pastey of Sin's up on Cuba mall and got some photos with him while it was still wet but for the life of me I can't find the damn pictures. Grrrr.

....And a rare treat to see Tank Girl make an appearance too.

''ALL COPS ARE BASTARDS" hahaha

Paste-up in Left Bank?! Weird.
