60K strong

Drypnz & Neonate

Wgtnwallstreet has hit 60,000 views!
So I've decided to post some pics from when I first started taking photos around town.

Ikon RTR. Waitangi Park.

The wall above was the first wall I ever took a photo of on a crappy point-and-shoot digi cam. It lasted for aggges ...

Still one of my favourite photos. Dixon Street.

Surplus Bargains.

IKON when Leftbank was the biz.

Big thanks to everybody who have followed this blog over the last 4 or so years. And thanks to those that dismiss my laziness on posting xx

Buff running it

I spent the weekend in Auckland. The weather was shit but Saturday proved fine in time to go hang with Cut Collective. One thing I have to say about Auckland is that there's more buff spots than Graf spots in the CBD. I also heard there was a full time sticker-scraper in the CBD so I only managed to get a few photos of a couple of random combos while there.

T sent some flicks through of the wall above which I posted a while back. The photo's I took don't really do the wall justice.

(didnt put a WWS logo on here as the OCHE got lost in it)

High Street

Haha check the Kudos on the left!

K'rd

I climbed this wall to get shots of the Graf above the carpark but got haggled by some drunk homeless dudes. Consequently the photos turned out crap HA!

Cut Collective on a doorway on K'rd. This work also appeared on Streetarse.co.nz

Saw a couple of familiar tags like Sluts, QST and a BH but couldn't decipher the squiggle above it though. If I had stayed longer I would have headed through the Kingsland and Morningside tracks but theres always next time!

Never thought I'd say this but I love Auckland.

All paste No paint

(photos used with permission from Ghostie)

....................

Martha Cooper has released a new book titled NAME TAGGING. Best known for documenting New York Graffiti in the 70's and 80's Martha has continued to snap shots of sticker art and compiled her best photos together for the book. With the 25th anniversary of her book SUBWAY ART recently and the rise of the Digital camera it's good to see the pioneers still making an impression.

....................

Berlin based artist Sweza is using QR (or Quick Response) barcodes on spots the authorities buff. Hooked blog explain that if you have a QR barcode reader on your phone you can scan the code and the images will load letting you view what was there before the buff got to it. Pretty nifty idea!

While we're on the subject, The buff squad in Lisbon, Portugal are removing any graffiti that appears along the route that The Pope's procession will take on his next visit. Somehow I think the graf will re-appear just as quickly as it's buffed.

Jinx in the sky

Jinx in the Sky does incredible artworks inspired by dreams, the mysteries of the unconcious mind and elements of everyday emotions that are easier painted than expressed by words.
She likes to use symbols and metaphors as they are present in our dreams, disguising the wonderful and the terrible, the fears, wishes and hopes, puzzeling the dreamer upon awaking

This exhibition "Through Diamond Eyes" is about that view of the world that she sometimes has, distorted yet beautiful. "Many of the paintings exhibited are dreams I've had or feelings I've experienced in the waking world which I've symbolised and distorted like dreams and crystals do."

The exhibition is accompanied by her short stop-motion film of the same title "Through Diamond Eyes". The film is about a girl who's crystals are pieces of her soul - her inner eyes - and how they see the world as they embark on a kaleidoscopic-dreamlike journey.

In addition to Jinx in the Skys paintings at the show (of which most are in acrylic, a couple in watercolour) there will also be limited edition Giclee prints available.

Where: Manky Chops Gallery yo!
166a Cuba Street
When: Exhibition opening Thursday 13th May from 6.30pm
Gold coin entry.
Runs til Staurday 29th May

Bits and Bobs

Went for a wander to a few spots I used to frequent but hadn't been to in a while. Not alot has changed since my last visit but took the op to get some of the throwies up on the second and third floors of what appears to be an abandoned building near Te Papa National Museum.

Found some new PNTR pastey's. Not sure if the third picture has already been posted before??

We've been sent a few links to some rather interesting happenings around the world.

''Los Angeles-based photographer Jonas Lara faces up to a year in prison if convicted of aiding and abetting two graffiti artists whose work he was documenting when the three men were arrested on February 2, 2010 in South Central Los Angeles''

''Lara has declined two plea deals and has pleaded not guilty to the charge, believing that he was within his rights as a photographer to be at the scene documenting the work of the artists. However Lara says his public defender, David Gottesmann, has so far refused to consider his rights as a photographer as part of the defense. “Every time I bring [photographer’s rights or First Amendment rights] up, he just laughs at me,” Lara says.

''When he was arrested, Lara was working on a long-term project for which he has documented the work and creative processes of 30 visual artists. Lara met the two graffiti artists at an abandoned building in South Central Los Angeles to photograph the pair as they worked on the illegal mural''

''Once he got to the police station, however, Lara’s situation became much more precarious. The police held Lara for eight hours before telling him he was being charged with felony vandalism. He was held for 26 hours in total''

''Two weeks after being bailed out by his wife, Lara was arraigned and the charge of felony vandalism was downgraded to a misdemeanor. At a pretrial hearing Gottesman told Lara that rather than vandalism, he was now being charged with damaging a fence at the scene. Then the charge was later switched again, this time to the misdemeanor of aiding and abetting. Prosecutors now claim Lara was acting as a lookout for the two graffiti artists''

Night Shot

A few photos from Hana Tawhai and the chamber of secrets opening at Manky Chops Gallery April 29th.

Haha Cam!

It was a slightly wobbly walk home after Hanas' show. Carrying my Camera, Tripod and about $25 worth of Burger King I took the opportunity to get a shot of this wall. Usually this spot is crammed with parked cars (which are my #1 enemy when trying to take photos)
Loving the BH in this one.
