Bits and Bobs

Went for a wander to a few spots I used to frequent but hadn't been to in a while. Not alot has changed since my last visit but took the op to get some of the throwies up on the second and third floors of what appears to be an abandoned building near Te Papa National Museum.

Found some new PNTR pastey's. Not sure if the third picture has already been posted before??

We've been sent a few links to some rather interesting happenings around the world.

''Los Angeles-based photographer Jonas Lara faces up to a year in prison if convicted of aiding and abetting two graffiti artists whose work he was documenting when the three men were arrested on February 2, 2010 in South Central Los Angeles''

''Lara has declined two plea deals and has pleaded not guilty to the charge, believing that he was within his rights as a photographer to be at the scene documenting the work of the artists. However Lara says his public defender, David Gottesmann, has so far refused to consider his rights as a photographer as part of the defense. “Every time I bring [photographer’s rights or First Amendment rights] up, he just laughs at me,” Lara says.

''When he was arrested, Lara was working on a long-term project for which he has documented the work and creative processes of 30 visual artists. Lara met the two graffiti artists at an abandoned building in South Central Los Angeles to photograph the pair as they worked on the illegal mural''

''Once he got to the police station, however, Lara’s situation became much more precarious. The police held Lara for eight hours before telling him he was being charged with felony vandalism. He was held for 26 hours in total''

''Two weeks after being bailed out by his wife, Lara was arraigned and the charge of felony vandalism was downgraded to a misdemeanor. At a pretrial hearing Gottesman told Lara that rather than vandalism, he was now being charged with damaging a fence at the scene. Then the charge was later switched again, this time to the misdemeanor of aiding and abetting. Prosecutors now claim Lara was acting as a lookout for the two graffiti artists''

Please!

I've alway been a fan of paste-ups, possibly because when there's lack of aerosol work around town someone always fills the gap with them.

Thank you for the comments on the Component Article that featured on Tv3 News last week. The majority of you disagree with the way He (Component) and Cut Collective were portrayed. Can't please them all I 'spos

I managed to escape work for half and hour to head up to Start Gallery on Cuba Street for Yelz & Eeks' exhibit opening on Friday night. Had I been able to hang out longer I would have taken some snaps :-(

EEEEEEKkkks

The heaven spot on Cuba Street has taken quite a thrashing! The most memorable piece would have to be the boombox stencil put up by the homie Component of Cut Collective.

Eek & Tex

This is another spot that has been made over on a regular basis with Cast Editor Quew and The BMD making an appearance.

In other news

I've been anxiously following the battle of wit between london writer King Robbo and Banksy. Beef isn't something that I go out of my way to acquire but having someone of Bankys' calibre getting hated on is almost amusing. You cant always stay on top I suppose.

While Banksy was in Utah for the Sundance Film Festival promoting his film 'Exit through the gift shop' Team Robbo were out in force.

My talented friend PNTR has his own blog up and running. I always enjoy seeing his fine art work brought to the streets!

Bunkers

The bunkers have always been a favourite spot to visit, mainly because they go untouched for months and the view is amazing if the weather is clear.

It had been over 2 or 3 months since our last visit with quite a few new works appearing in the time frame.

DWT taking over!

The bunkers are too narrow to get the full spectrum with my camera but you get the idea .....

If you have frequented PNTR's Flickr page you would have viewed this many times as I have. Good thing about this is that it can be seen from the houses surrounding the hills. Dope!

I know theres stuff out there that I have yet to photograph, but I'll get there.

Coming to you very soon .....

Vivian Street

A tonne of new work has been going up along Vivian Street over the past 3 months. With the addition of the make-shift construction wall fencing off the park that's under renovation it has added some well deserved paste-up spots.

Nice multi layer stencil nail up from Yohzik (above)

L-R Malice/PNTR collab, PNTR, Trike, AIM and Jean Batten tribute by AIM see below

The alley beside the newly named Medusa (Formerly Hole in the wall) that serves as the smokers lounge has always had graf and random drunken scribbles all over it. I'm glad to see it get a tidy up though.

Eventful week

It's been an eventful week ....

Last Sunday I made my way up to Waitangi Park to get shots of TS painting a bus as part of the ACT RIGHT anti-violence campaign for GO Wellington. I didn't stick around long but the bus was looking pretty dope.

I woke up to a text from Odin stating that a new pastey had been put up on the makeshift construction wall not far from the usual route to work. Malice is DOPE!!!

Took a trip up to Mt Crawford to see if anything new had appeared in the few weeks since we had last been there. Not much had changed apart from the AIM one above ...

And finally Friday 11th saw the re-release of Massage Magazine @ Meow Cafe. We braved the wind and the odd rain shower to chill in the courtyard out the back. Organic beer isn't so bad after all :-P

With Christmas just around the corner and the prospect of a well earned holiday on the horizon I'm going to apologise in advance for posts slowing down over the next couple of weeks. If I can motivate myself OUT of holiday mode and tear myself away from the beers I plan on consuming I'll put some photos up.
