Have a good weekend

This weekend has been the best weekend I've had in a long time.

I headed over to Baobab Cafe in Newtown to hang out and get some snaps of their wall getting made over by Drypnz PNTR and Malice for the release of Massage Magazine. The walkway where the wall was situated was rather narrow and not the most photo friendly but the weather was good and the beers provided by Malice went down nicely.

Later that night we headed rather drunkenly over to Havana to hang with Yelz while he did some live painting for the masses. $10 beers!! Thank f**k my loving mother gave me some cash as an early xmas present.

....................

Quew had painted this on Thursday and as usual cars were in the way of me getting a decent shot in. On my way to work the morning after consuming all those aforementioned beers I got these....

....................

Hallensteins have teamed up with Mankychops studio to paint a graffiti art style painting that will go to auction on TradeMe with all proceeds donated directly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The artwork is done by Editor from Mankychops studio, with aerosol paint, courtesy of Cheapskates. It is painted on 2 Canvases kindly donated by the French Art Studio.
A time lapse video was made of the canvases being painted that you can view HERE

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Zealand strives to grant the one cherished wish of each child between the ages of 3 and 18 years who has a life-threatening illness.

View (and bid on!!!!!) the auction HERE

... More from my good weekend continued in the next post!

Chop Shop

Not to sure who did this but its fkn dope.
...................

Graffography sent me these photos from Moa Point. I hadn't been up there for weeks and from what we've seen its always changing.
Looking at Feaf 's recent work makes me wonder why he hadn't painted earlier.

Nice detail by Unit.

After a long hiatus I went up to Manky Chops last night for a beer. The place is packed with awesome works ranging from Jinx to Eek and almost everyone in between. If you've run out of Xmas present ideas then head up to Manky Chops Level 1 166 Cuba

Ever since Twitter have taken over the social networking scene I've been inundated with emails stating '' so-and-so wants to follow you on Twitter'' I flat out refuse to do it and find the whole thing pointless. I found out that the 2 times Revok got arrested recently were because of his ''tweets'' stating where he was going to be and the 5-0 where there waiting for him. Sorry folks but there will be no tweeting from me.
....................

If you get a chance head down to Baobab Cafe @ 152 Riddiford St Newtown today and check out the live painting by Dryp and friends and the release of Massage Mag.
And there will be more live painting later tonight by YELZ @ Havana Bar Wigan St.

LAME!

AIM sent me through this link this morning from the LA Times about Revok getting arrested! WHAT!

'A reputed tagger who was paid $1,000 to be a featured "guest artist" at a self-described graffiti art store was arrested at the downtown store this weekend after authorities found him carrying spray tips, which are used in tagging, officials said today.

Jason Williams, 32, who was on probation and goes by the name REVOK, was appearing Sunday as the guest of honor at the 33rd Graffiti Art Store, said Sgt. Augie Pando of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The store was exhibiting Montana spray paint, a brand used by taggers, Pando said.

During a later search of Williams' home, deputies found several hundred paint cans, a police badge and a fire extinguisher, Pando said. They also found a stolen detour sign and digital photos of his graffiti work on his phone.

"He's being treated as a celebrity artist when in fact he's breaking the law," said Steve Whitmore, a sheriff's spokesman.

Williams was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing vandalism tools, a counterfeit Los Angeles Police Department badge, and receiving stolen property, the sheriff's department said.

Sheriff's officials said Williams told them that he earns a living selling T-shirts and prints and said he was paid $1,000 to attend the art exhibit.

He is being held on $20,000 bail '

Lame!

I know this is going to be the talk of alot of graf related blogs the world over.

Most of us were nursing severe hangovers but we managed to organise ourselves enough to go out for a paint

This is the first time I've seen TEXAS use the same letters consistently instead of doing those rad multi styled letters like the collab he did with Eek below this photo set.

Broken record but I couldn't a panoramic shot of this because of the cars. I fkn hate cars man!

Such a sweet spot!

Finally, no car in the way!!

Boabab Cafe @ 152 Riddiford St Newtown are hosting the release of Massage Magazine, a ''publication of images and loose notes about existence' this Friday November 27 with live painting by Drypnz & PNTR and contributing artists Mica Still and Ryan Jellyman.

Major Lazy

I've had the major lazys this week. I could hardly be bothered back tracking 20 metres or so to get some photos. Choice looking Drypnz

...This is not the usual Editor piece. Still looks dope though.

Not sure what it is about Wellington's Trike that makes me stop and take a shot. Dissapointed to hear that this isn't the same Trike (originally from Dunners) that did that huge face by Bar Bodega all those years ago. Hmmm

My google reader has been chocker with posts from Revok1.com who gave me the heads up on Australian writer SOFLES website launch. This dude does some of the best burners seen on this side of the world. If the name sounds familiar he has his own Ironlak colour Sofles Violence.
Visit his site HERE

Wellington Zine Fest is on this Saturday 20th Nov @ Mighty Mighty Cuba Mall from 12 - 5pm. Anyone into the DIY asthetic will definatetly enjoy this.

...................

Ironlak have launched 2 new products.

First is the 100ml can dubbed the Little Lak , small enough to fit in your pocket but still boasts the same coverage as the premuim sized cans.

(rephrase: Same coverage meaning it covers just as good as the paint in the premium cans)

&

A new colour Tar Black.

I'm not sure when they'll be hitting our shores but lets hope we don't get left out.

....................

I'd like to say a big thank you to Yozhik for the feedback. Keep getting out there man!

Takes the cake

The boards that follow the empty lot on both Hanson and John Streets have been given some well deserved love over the last few weeks. Much better than the white monstrosity that was there before.

....................

Could this possibly be a stencil by the lovely Xoe Hall? Probably not but it looks very similar to her work.

....................

At the risk of sounding like an arrogant twit this is looks like artist 45rpm
who is part of Bristols What Collective. Street artists are known to 'borrow' styles from each other but this takes the cake. mmmm Cake! Nice public placement though.

....................

I got in contact with a guy after a recent Trade Me purchase and found that he has started his own Tauranga based Graf supplies website titled MRGRAFFITI.COM

After exchanging a few emails he mentioned he had started the site to cater for the OUT-OF-AUCKLANDer graf heads that had trouble finding decent caps/pens/mops/ink etc in their town.
Only $4 postage fee!! Better than buying a unrefillable pen for over $25 at your local rip off art joint!

SuperVision films are making some dope videos of the Ironlak team getting up all over the place. The video I put up in the previous post is just a taster of what they have on their blog

Sunscreen

We took advantage of the awesome weather over the weekend to paint the back of a building that was looking a little worse for wear. I should have worn more sunscreen on the backs of my legs because now they're bright pink ha!

Nice installation work by EEK

....................

... And a few randoms I found on my way to get the John / Hanson street boards ...

(Oops posted this twice)

Aim sent me through a link to an article that featured in The New Zealand Herald last week. The $25,000 study, titled Tagging and Graffiti: Attitudes and Experiences of Young New Zelanders. It makes for a pretty interesting read into the views of the general public, aswel as lecturers from The Criminology Institute of Victoria University.

Check it out HERE

And while we're on the subject of graffiti laws....

Australia plans to introduce even harsher penalties toward graffiti 'vandalism'

Check out the 3news article that appeared on Nightline last night HERE

(This is my first attempt at making a poll. Bit rusty but I'll get the hang of it)
