Anyone spotted the posters by Australia's Everfresh Crew appearing around town? The long standing RONE paste-up on Taranaki Street has to be one of the oldest in Wellington as far as I can remember, but these are a welcome addition.

A copy of the above print had been put up on Garret Street along with the pastey below going up just around the corner in Glover park BUT both mysteriously disappeared after a heavy downfall ..... Had the posters become water-logged therefore easy to remove and take home? We'll never know.....

In other News.....

Sao Paulo artists Os Gemeos are having there second solo show at Milan gallery which opens January 25th. The show titled Nos bracos de um anjo ( In the arms of an angel) will feature never seen before works on canvas, musical sculptures and installations throughout the gallery.

Eventful week

It's been an eventful week ....


Last Sunday I made my way up to Waitangi Park to get shots of TS painting a bus as part of the ACT RIGHT anti-violence campaign for GO Wellington. I didn't stick around long but the bus was looking pretty dope.




I woke up to a text from Odin stating that a new pastey had been put up on the makeshift construction wall not far from the usual route to work. Malice is DOPE!!!







Took a trip up to Mt Crawford to see if anything new had appeared in the few weeks since we had last been there. Not much had changed apart from the AIM one above ...


And finally Friday 11th saw the re-release of Massage Magazine @ Meow Cafe. We braved the wind and the odd rain shower to chill in the courtyard out the back. Organic beer isn't so bad after all :-P

With Christmas just around the corner and the prospect of a well earned holiday on the horizon I'm going to apologise in advance for posts slowing down over the next couple of weeks. Act Right Sunday 6th December

A GO Wellington bus will be carrying an anti-violence message round the city for the next eight months.

A workshop was held on the Friday 20 November with the bus painting planned for the next day but was delayed til Sunday 6th December, to explore young people's perceptions of violence and abuse. Participants came up with key messages about what violence means to them and how this could be communicated through art.

There will be live performances on the while the bus is painted including Host MC Peace, D ov a Kind, Kurst 1, TNG, Wellington B boy and B Girl Crew - Voltron and other B boys and B girls, CPC DJ Crew and the It's Not Okay Campaign champions Tremain and Vic Tamati.

Hopefully the sun is out!

Sunday saw Mugs and I have a paint at an old spot used by a few of us (Thanks Guy & Shosh!!) Sunshine, new paint and a box of beers helped keep the atmosphere mellow as we took our time and chilled with M & B from Graffography

Wasn't that pleased with how mine turned out but nevermind, it was choice just being able to chill and take your time without attracting an audience.

I've decided to take the CHECK IT links out and give you all a taste of whats available out there in the big web world. I've been slowly trying to refine the blog because I was getting a bit lazy with the layout.

And for purely selfish reasons I've added a LOVE THIS BLOG? check box down the bottom..... Do it!

Anyway..

Anyone that has an interest in graffiti in Wellington, whether they are for or against it has seen the recent campaign against graffiti 'vandalism' or tagging advertised in pedestrian crossing shelters across town by the Wellington City Council.

My man over at Graffography first alerted me to the work by Drypnz and Random being used in the campaign, work that broke no law and was now put under a negative spotlight by the Council. I agree that the general public would have limited knowledge on aerosol art and in my opinion the Council's lack of research behind their campaign have put ideas into an already naive community.

So, I emailed an acquaintance at the Council to ask who I could voice our concerns too regarding this laziness and got a reply a few days later. They were apologetic and apparently the 'photographer' didn't know that the work used in the campaign was deemed legal. They agreed to remove the work from future campaigns but god knows how many posters, stickers etc that have already printed and not to mention the amount of money wasted on a poorly researched scheme.

They did say that on the Council website and in their brochures that they pointed out he difference between art and vandalism. According to them the MURAL in Te Aro by the basketball court, created with permission was GRAFFITI ART and a bad throwie on a shop front as VANDALISM (done without permission). I can agree with the bad throwie as being the act of a vandal but the MURAL is not GRAFFITI ART. It's a mural! I could talk for days about the flaws in their campaign but it will only fall on deaf ears.

I heavily disagree with the way in which this campaign has panned out but I respect the fact that they were willing to remove Dryp and Randoms work when asked too.

Busty rhymes in Chile

Some friends who had stayed here recently went to Santiago De Chile in South America.

They mentioned that everywhere you go there will be at least one piece of street art and/or Graf.From my knowledge of Chilean Graffiti it has strong roots in political activism through work of stencils and slogans.

Massey Univeristy Cont.

As promised in the last post I went back up to Massey University to check out the homies new work. I got covered in mud after doing the epic slide UP a hill trying to get there as quickly as possible. Luckily my camera is still in one piece lol
