The year that was.

Xmas has come and gone and the year is slowly coming to an end. Not much has happened over he xmas period except for the usual school holiday influx of whack tags and scribbles all over the place.

I intended to do some more interview posts but this time of year has seen everyone leave town for a few weeks so will go right on back to them in the new year.

Meanwhile, heres some slaps I've found around town. Not many but it's a start ;-P

Boogey. Man. Designs?

Theres been a BMD explosion around town! Little monsters and crazy creatures have taken over any fusebox, street sign, bare walls, buffed spots and letter boxes from here to Newtown and back!

Most Street Artists are truly elusive and BMD is no exception. We dont know much about him/her but we're more than happy to let the stickers and paste ups speak for themselves. We noticed a similarity to the work of BLOK but cant rule that out til we have confirmation.

Boots are made for walking

Being an avid graf hound you always notice any new slaps, burners, throwies or any other form of street art that keep your camera busy. Pink Boots is a recent addition to the slapstick scene. Usually her sticks (Yes I've had it confirmed that it is a girl) are mixed media and usually very feminine and bright.

Lipstick, curvy women and the said Pink Boots have appeared around town. Lets hope we see more of her work!

SlapStick

Started up some Sticker Combos while in Nelson for a.... umm er long weekend! (Yeah right, DRINKING weekend!) Had a bit of a wander around and only found a few faded sticks and school boy tags.

Gathered up a few stickers from my personal collection and slapped them up at the first sign of any graf life forms. Most prolific stickers there were the Bobby Wang Asian-guy-with-flat-top-mullet stickers! I couldnt resist the temptation and stole one for my black book.

Beware, Drypnz, Neonate, Jerome Cope!us .....and Bobby Wang, Trafalgar St. (The sticker down the bottom of this picture amazed me by still being up after 6/7 months!)



Started up this one at Tahuna Beach. Noticed this box sticking outta the ground by the library and knew it would be perfect. While putting up the sticks a kid came over to ask innocently what I was doing. When I replied ''For people to look at" he asked 'Why?'...I knew from there it would turn into a very VERY long conversation lol.

ITALY_STIK_PAINT

As I mentioned in the "SPECIAL BULLETIN #2" post, I had meet a guy called Justin down the infamous LeftBank......fast forward a few weeks and he stopped by my work with laptop in hand, ready to share some of his photos he has taken on his travels around the world. He didn't emphasise at the time on what he was giving me, which left me feeling like a kid about to visit a candy store!

The file was called ITALY_STIK_PAINT. In my opinion Italy has some of the best street art there is. But not having visited Italy myself I trusted the opinion and photographic skills of my hero Tristan Manco. There they either have an extreme appreciation of any form of art, whether on the street or in a gallery OR 'the buff' are none existent (wishful thinking!) but what I saw leaves alot to desire for Wellington, the arts capital of New Zealand.

Seeing slaps and pasteys of The London Police and Microbo (My favourite) other than on various web sites or books I have read was a bit strange but I couldn't scroll through the pics fast enough!

With artists like this willing to share their art with the general public it's a shame that there are others who want to see it gone. Councils push for funding of the arts but will spend nearly 2 or 3 times the amount on trying to get rid of it.
